About Us

Denver Health has been treating and healing the people of Denver for more than 160 years since its founding in 1860 to serve the health care needs of the community. Since then, we have grown alongside the community to become a complete health care system, proudly providing care for all residents -- at every point in their lives, from primary, specialty and acute care services such as Urgent Care, Emergency and Trauma. In addition, Denver Health delivers broad care across the community through the Denver Health Paramedics, the Public Health Institute, School-based Health Centers at Denver Public Schools, the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety center, and more.

As a comprehensive, integrated health system, we provide hospital and emergency care to our patients. This integration promotes continuity of care for each patient and assures health care that is delivered in the most efficient, cost-effective setting.

We care for:

  • Nearly twenty five percent of Denver's population annually.
  • one in three Denver-area babies delivered each year.
  • the needs of special populations such as the people experiencing poverty, uninsured, pregnant teens, substance use issues, victims of violence and unhoused populations.

As Colorado's primary safety-net institution, Denver Health has provided billions of dollars in uncompensated care and some $120 million each year, and serves as a model for other safety net institutions across the nation.

Denver Health and Hospital Authority

Denver Health and Hospital Authority (the “Authority”) was created by the Colorado legislature as a body corporate and political subdivision of the State of Colorado pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes § 25-29-101, et seq. (the “Act”). The Authority began operations on January 1, 1997 after having separated from the City and County of Denver (“the City”). On January 1, 1997, the City transferred substantially all of the healthcare programs, services and facilities of the City’s former Department of Health and Hospitals to the Authority. The Authority is governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors that is responsible for the operation of the Authority’s health system, including the Denver Health Medical Center.
