Denver Community Health Services has a rich history of serving Denver. In March, 1966, Eastside Family Health Center began serving patients in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood. Eastside was the first health center west of the Mississippi River.
What began as a clinic housed in a former bakery has transformed into a network of eight family health centers, two hospital-based urgent care centers, and 14 school-based health centers. In 2011, DCHS had more than 123,000 patients. DCHS is one of the largest community health center networks in the country.
DCHS provides primary care services (medical, dental and mental health) to about one of five Denver residents and 35 percent of Denver’s children.
DHCS serves as a national model of service delivery and its high quality care has garnered national awards, most recently The Shingo Prize Bronze Medallion for operational excellence. DCHS received the award for its Lean process improvement in its family health centers and school-based health centers
The mission of DCHS is to promote health and reduce health disparities in Denver’s underserved populations through high quality patient care, advocacy, teaching, and research.
The vision of DCHS is to provide the highest quality community-focused health care in the United States.
