Denver Health is nationally recognized for its efforts in reengineering its health care delivery system and all of the Hospitalists have important administrative functions in conjunction with these efforts.
Mid-Level Positions
Our Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners work closely under the supervision of our Hospitalist Physicians to deliver all aspects of care to hospitalized patients on our general medical services.
Our Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners currently provide direct clinical care on inpatient non-teaching Medicine services, a Chest Pain Observation service and an Emergency Department Observation and Triage Unit. Our hospitalist group provides 24-hour coverage and thus shifts are a combination of day shifts, swing shifts and night shifts. Currently night shifts are on a volunteer basis but that is subject to change. The clinical workload for a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner who works in the Division of Hospital Medicine is on average 17.3 shifts day shifts or 10 night shifts per month.
Involvement in the educational training of future providers is also an option for interested non-physician providers. Our Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners mentor minority undergraduates from the University of Colorado at Denver who are interested in health careers and also precept students from various local and national PA and NP programs.
