All of our board certified Emergency Medicine attending physicians hold academic appointments at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine. Denver Health is also the Rocky Mountain Regional Level I Trauma Center, with one of the best survival rates in the country at 95 percent. Our trauma program provides care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, utilizing pre-hospital, hospital, and post-hospital care.

Denver Health offers state-of-the-art care for adult, pediatric and psychiatric emergencies around the clock, with over 70,000 visits per year. The Denver Health Emergency Department services include Urgent Care, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program 24/7, an observation Unit and a separate Clinical Transition Unit.

  • Adult - The adult ED has 38 beds, including 7 trauma rooms and 2 resuscitation rooms
  • DECC – The 19-bed Pediatric department treated over 24, 500 patients in 2011.
  • CTU – The 9-bed observation unit which is directly adjacent to the adult ED handled more than 1,500 patients in 2011

The Professional Registered Denver Health Staff Nurse is responsible for providing age appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating health care workers about healthy practices, and treatment modalities, assuring continuity of care, coordinating the care across settings and among caregivers, managing information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology.

The Professional Registered Denver Health Staff Nurse will receive a tailored orientation based upon the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) orientation modules which is designed to help nurses be primed to react swiftly and effectively for every patient situation.

Our goal is to provide patient and family centered care within our Emergency Department. We have an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, and our ED team consists of professional nursing staff, patient care technicians, emergency service aides, residents, board certified emergency physicians, building service specialists, and volunteers. To that end, we rely on the assistance of many other disciplines within our department, some of which include child life specialists, social work, patient advocates, and care managers.

To accommodate the high demand for employment in the Denver Health ED, we have created a waiting list for Registered Nurses who want to join our team. To qualify you must have the following:

  • a current Colorado State RN license
  • current BLS and ACLS certification with the American Heart Association
  • TNCC, ENPC
  • at least 1 year of Emergency Nursing experience
