Tom MacKenzie, MD, MSPH
Chief Medical and Quality Officer
Dr. MacKenzie is a practicing internal medicine physician and is currently the chief medical and quality officer for Denver Health. Tom oversees quality improvement efforts, patient safety and medical staff affairs across the integrated delivery system. Prior to his appointment as chief medical quality officer in 2008, as director of internal medicine he managed operations of five ambulatory clinics with volumes totaling about 100,000 visits per year. He is also an associate professor of medicine at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine.
He completed his B.S. in Chemistry at Colorado College, his M.D. at the Washington University School of Medicine, and his internal and preventive medicine residencies as well as his M.S. in Public Health at University of Colorado School of Medicine. His research interests include development of patient care registries, evidence-based guideline development and implementation, and risk communication and medical decision making. He currently sits on the guideline panel for hypertension for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) as well as the NHLBI guideline implementation work group.
