The primary purpose of this grant is to develop a Rocky Mountain Regional Care Model for Bioterrorism Preparedness that addresses surge capacity and short and long-term health care needs in the event of a bioterrorist event. The overarching purpose of this project is to develop an exportable model for bioterrorism planning by national, state and local policy makers who are devising and implementing plans for bioterrorism preparedness. As outlined in the statement of work, the specific goals of this project are:
  1. Examine the effects of regional care models and their impact on resource allocation and capacity in the event of a potential bioterrorist event.
  2. Examine the effect of a potential bioterrorist event on hospital and health system's costs, outcomes and staffing.
  3. Identify the facility characteristics necessary for establishing individual facilities as isolation or quarantine units for the region.
  4. Identify characteristics of the model that are exportable to regional, state and local policy makers.
