Dr. Gregory J. Jurkovich Appointed Chairman of the National Trauma Institute

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Dr. Gregory ("Jerry") Jurkovich, Chief of Surgery at Denver Health Medical Center was appointed chairman of the Board of Directors at the National Trauma Institute (NTI). NTI is a nonprofit organization that advocates for increased federal funding for trauma research and research infrastructure to reduce death and disability from trauma-related events.

Dr. Jurkovich assumes the Board Chair position immediately, replacing Donald H. Jenkins, MD, FACS who served in the position for two years and will move into the Vice Chair position.

NTI works in partnership with like-minded organizations to achieve rapid advances in traumatic injury treatment that can save lives. As the organization's first funded studies are beginning to publish meaningful results, the 24-member board is turning their efforts towards establishing two infrastructure projects.

"Our board is very enthusiastic about advocating and acquiring the funding for both a national trauma research repository and a clinical trials network," said Dr. Jurkovich, who in addition to his role at Denver Health is also the Vice Chairman for the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. "A robust research infrastructure is long overdue and developing these two projects is an exciting step in our organization's evolution."
