Certified Lactation Consultant

Certified Lactation Consultants have had special education and are able to demonstrate the necessary skills and knowledge to help you successfully breastfeed your baby.  She is also specially educated to be able to help identify problems and refer this to your doctor or another appropriate health care professional.

 

Sonographers

Sonographers are medical professionals who are skilled in operating the ultrasonic devices that produce the early pictures of your baby, before he/she is born.

 

Genetics Counselor

After receiving you prenatal testing, you may be referred to a genetics counselor.  Denver Health’s genetics counselor has special education and training to help you understand the results of your prenatal test or screen.  If there are abnormalities found, the genetics counselor will teach you about these findings and inform you of options that may be available to you.  The genetics counselor always provides supportive counseling to you and your family and is able to refer you to other community or state support services if necessary.

 

Neonatologists

A neonatologist is a medical doctor specializing in the care of the sick or premature infant.  Our neonatologists work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit caring for babies born premature, critically ill or in need of specialized procedures or surgery.  The neonatologists is always on stand by for Cesarean Section deliveries or any delivery that may involve medical problems resulting in medical intervention for the infant in the delivery room. 

 

Physician’s Assistant (PA)

Working with the neonatologists in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Denver Health’s team of PAs care for the well newborns as well as some of the newborns in the NICU.  The PA has specialized, advanced training and can perform procedures on the newborn such as circumcisions, exams, management of babies requiring mechanical ventilation and prescribing medications.

 

Anesthesiologist

An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor specializing in the administration of medications and other agents that put people to “sleep” during surgery or other painful procedures.  Anesthesiologists are also available on Labor and Delivery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you with pain management options during labor such as epidural pain relief or if a Cesarean Section delivery becomes necessary.

 

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA)

A CRNA is a highly skilled nurse with advanced education in the administration of medications and other agents used during surgery or other painful procedures under the supervision of an anesthesiologist.  The CRNA is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you with pain management options during your labor.

 

Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OB/GYN)

The OB/GYN is a medical doctor specializing in the care of women throughout their life span (adolescent and young adult, early and prime reproductive age, late reproductive, peri-and early menopausal and mature adulthood).  The OB/GYN cares for women pre-and post-natal as well as gynecological care, seeing patients for specialized gynecological exams and performing procedures.

 

Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)

Denver Health’s NPs and CNMs are highly skilled health professionals, each with advanced skills in nursing and specializing in the care of women.  The NPs and CNMs care for patients in the Women’s Care Clinic performing gynecological exams and follow up and uncomplicated prenatal care.  They also care for women in the Obstetrical Screening Room determining if they are in labor or helping with any complications. 

 

The CNMs at Denver Health also deliver babies using a model of care that embraces child birth as normal and seeks to optimize the experience for you and your family.  If your pregnancy is uncomplicated, you may choose to be delivered by a CNM.
