Denver Health strives to prevent injuries by conducting research and developing programs to identify effective prevention strategies. By increasing injury prevention awareness, and providing educational programs and resources throughout the State of Colorado, together we can reduce the burden of unintentional and violent injuries.
A comprehensive approach to preventing injuries requires the involvement of schools, health care providers, community agencies, law enforcement, and media.
Increasing awareness about injury prevention and promoting injury prevention programs is an integral part of being an academic Level I Trauma Center. While clinicians are in the business of minimizing the severity of injuries through state-of-the-art care, they are also committed to educating patients and the community about prevention. The Injury Prevention Committee acts as a forum to review causes of injury, trends, treatment and quality of care concerns in order to identify possible intervention strategies; develop and produce injury prevention programs for the community, and respond to community requests.
For programs reaching beyond the hospital and its patients, the committee works with the Denver Metro Safe Kids Coalition, CPS Team Colorado, Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. We are actively involved with educational campaigns endorsed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
