Julia Timmerman grew up in Colorado and Wyoming and likes spending quality time in the mountains with her family and dogs while backpacking, snowboarding and running. She is a licensed clinical social worker and certified addictions counselor who came to STEP in 2006. She holds a Master of Social Work from Walla Walla University with a focus on clinical work with children and adolescents. Her favorite part of working at STEP is the privilege of having meaningful conversations with young people and their families. She partners with her clients through conversations and experiential activities that focus on the client’s values and strengths in order to bring about the changes they are interested in making in their life. Timmerman has received advanced training in motivational interviewing and acceptance and commitment therapy. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and offers training, coaching and supervision to trainees and professionals.
