Denver Health Financial Assistance Program

The Denver Health Financial Assistance Program (DFAP) is a Denver Health program that helps pay for health services provided by Denver Health providers. Patients who live in Denver County and are not eligible to receive benefits under Medicaid, CICP and CHP+, may be eligible for DFAP. Eligibility is based on family size, income and resources. DFAP is not a health insurance plan. It cannot be used with any other health insurance program, including Medicaid and Medicare.

DFAP Medical Care

DFAP helps pay for a portion of the medical care provided so patients do not have to pay the full amount. With DFAP, patients pay a co-payment or deposit for primary care services at Denver Health's Community Health Centers, for urgent care at Denver Health's Adult Urgent Care Clinic and Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic, and for prescriptions filled at any Denver Health Pharmacy. The amount of the co-payment or deposit is based on family size, income, resources and the type of medical care or service being provided. Except in emergency situations, you must pay the co-payment or deposit before being seen by the doctor.

DFAP also allows patients to pay less for care with specialists at Denver Health's outpatient specialty care clinics, to access medically-necessary medical imaging services like MRI, CT and nuclear by paying a deposit before being seen by the doctor. If you receive services in Denver Health’s Emergency Department, you will be asked to pay a deposit at the time of service. The amount of the deposit is based on family size, income, resources and the type of medical care or service being provided.

With DFAP, patients can receive medically-necessary Ambulatory Surgeries by paying a percent of the estimated total charges for the surgery before having the surgery. If you receive medically-necessary Inpatient Services, you will also be asked to pay a percent of the estimated total charges at the time you receive your services. The percent of the discount you receive is based on family size, income and resources.

If you have DFAP with the Z, N, or A-I rate, you will receive a 70 percent discount from total charges. You will be responsible for paying the balance of the charges for these services.

If you have DFAP with the S or T rate, you will receive a 50 percent discount from total charges. You will be responsible for paying the balance of the charges for these services.
