Important Facts about Measles

Measles is a respiratory disease caused by a virus that lives in an infected person’s nose or throat. The virus is very contagious, but it can be prevented through vaccination

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children should get two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine.

  • First dose: 12-15 months of age
  • Second dose: 4-6 years of age
Some adults should also get the MMR vaccine, specifically those older than 18 years of age who were born after 1956.
