Denver Health's surgical oncologists provide the newest and most technologically advanced surgical treatment for liver, pancreas and breast cancer. Our surgical treatments utilize minimally invasive procedures that provide patients with a faster recovery period and little scarring.

Our integrated team employs experts from all medical specialties to provide patients with complete care, and our Surgical and Medical Intensive Care Unit staff are specially trained to provide the best post-surgery care.

As one of the busiest hospitals in the region, we encounter and care for a number of patients with complex medical conditions every day and have the expertise and staff to provide the best care possible.

Surgical Oncology Expert

With more than 20 years of experience in providing surgical treatment of liver, pancreas and breast cancers, Dr. Carlton Barnett is a board-certified surgeon with specialized training and experience in surgical oncology.

He has completed specialty fellowship training in surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and is also in charge of the surgical oncology research lab with funding from both the American Cancer Society and the National Institute of Health, participating in specific research related to liver and pancreas disease.

He treats hundreds of patients each year suffering from liver and pancreatic cancers in need of surgical treatment.

Dr. Carlton Barnett's interests are in the areas of surgical oncology with plans to start a formal Pancreatico-Hepatobiliary Service at Denver Health.

Dr. Barnett is the Director of Surgical Oncology at Denver Health along with the Medical Student Course Director for Denver Health. He is on the Risk Management Committee and is the Chair for the Commission on Cancer Committee for Denver Health. He is also an active member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center.
