Denver Reports Dramatic Decrease in Number of HIV Infections
New numbers from Denver Public Health report that the number of people newly diagnosed with HIV in Denver is the lowest it has been since the epidemic began. In 2013, 117 people were diagnosed with HIV, compared to 238 people in 2005. Additionally, there was a 20% drop in cases from 2012 to 2013.
Dr. Mark Thrun, director, HIV/STD Prevention and Control, recently spoke with Colorado Public Radio's Ryan Warner on the drop in cases and the keys to slowing HIV transmission rates, which includes treatment as prevention.
