On July 23, Denver Health leaders from across the health system celebrated the opening of a new radiology suite at the Lowry Family Health Center. The opening marks the largest dedicated radiology suite with the most comprehensive capabilities among Denver Health’s 10 community health centers.
X-ray, ultrasound and breast imaging appointments are now available to Denver Health patients at the Lowry Family Health Center, importantly increasing access to radiology services for patients in Denver’s east metropolitan communities.
“Opening this new radiology suite is significant for Denver Health because it marks the beginning of bringing imaging back into the communities we serve,” Denver Health CEO Donna Lynne said. “No longer will patients need to travel across town for imaging. Now, they can do so closer to home.”
The Lowry Family Health Center is one of Denver Health’s busiest community health centers, seeing more than 45,000 patients every year. Lowry’s importance for the surrounding community is what spurred leaders to advocate for dedicated radiology services at the clinic.
“As a clinic with a beautifully diverse population, we are so grateful to have this opportunity to provide imaging resources to East Denver,” Jessica Bull, MD, medical director of the Lowry Family Health Center, said. “Our patients at Lowry speak over 80 different languages and are often new to Colorado. They frequently walk to their appointments and would regularly miss opportunities for imaging to screen for pulmonary tuberculosis, bony injuries, mammograms or more due to the challenges faced when trying to go downtown. The addition of radiology services right here at Lowry is a total game changer to meet the needs of our patients and communities.”
This project was also made possible thanks to federal funding secured by Congresswoman Diana DeGette.
“Congresswoman DeGette has been a real champion for Denver Health over the years and we are so fortunate to have her in our corner,” Lynne said.
