Just two months after the naming ceremony for the Brooke Gordon Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Denver Health, a team of health care professionals from Denver Health will take a very important walk. Denver Health is one of the sponsors of the Walk to End Epilepsy, happening on Sunday, June 12, at Denver City Park.

Members of the walking group known as "Denver Health Employees and Friends" said they have chosen to come together to stand alongside all those affected by epilepsy (register to join or donate to the Denver Health team here). 1500 people are expected to take part in the 5K event, including Brooke Gordon herself, who is also a board member of the Denver Health Foundation as well as the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado and Wyoming.

The Walk to End Epilepsy supports people living with epilepsy in both Colorado and Wyoming. Epilepsy affects nearly three million Americans, approximately 30 percent of whom continue to suffer in spite of the anti-epileptic medications currently available. One in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy during their lifetime and 60,000 people in Colorado are living with it.

Members of the Brooke Gordon Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Denver Health will have a table set up at the event to share information with anyone interested in learning more about the advanced, high-tech epilepsy treatment options available. Denver Health is a Level Four Epilepsy Center, the highest rank designation by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. More information about Denver Health's epilpsy treatment program is also available by emailing Wendy Kogel at wendy.kogel@dhha.org or calling 303-602-4368.

Denver Health is also proud to partner with the Epilepsy Foundation for outreach to local school children. During a recent visit with a group of 4th graders at Strive Prep School in Denver, the goal was to teach children some of the facts about epilepsy, answer their questions and show them what to do if they see someone having a seizure. Denver Health's therapy dog "Navy" also came along with his handler/EEG Supervisor Patrick Justus, who showed the kids how therapy dogs are helping patients at Denver Health who have epilepsy. See photos of the visit below.

Denver Health is proud to be an official sponsor of the 2022 Walk to End Epilepsy! We hope you will join us at Denver City Park on June 12th as we take action together to END EPILEPSY.
