For billing purposes, and for most of our services, Denver Health is considered a hospital-based provider, which means that Denver Health is required to bill for facility and provider charges. As a result, you will receive one bill that includes both provider and facility charges for your visit at Denver Health. (see ‘Understanding Your Denver Health Bill’ for details)
For information about hospital charges and insurance company or health maintenance organization reimbursement rates, visit the Colorado Hospital Price Report.
Due to a new electronic record system implementation, for services rendered prior to April 9, 2016, you will receive a physician bill and a hospital (facility) bill. For services rendered on or after April 9, 2016, you will receive one bill that includes facility and physician charges.
Physician charges: Services and procedures performed by your doctor. For example, if you have an x-ray, the physician bill will include the doctor’s charges for the interpretation of that x-ray.
Facility charges: The costs of the operating room, services and supplies, and other overhead costs.
Depending on your insurance, out of pocket cost will vary. As Denver Health is hospital-based, some insurance companies view outpatient clinic visits as ‘outpatient hospital visits’ rather than as doctor’s office visits. Due to this processing, out of pocket cost may change based on your benefits.
Denver Health accepts multiple insurance plans, and your insurance company is billed directly for most services. All co-pays are due at the time of service.
