Denver Health Program Recognized for HPV Vaccination Efforts

A new collaboration between dental practices and pediatrics at Denver Health is showing promise at improving rates of immunization against the human papillomavirus (HPV). Research published today in Pediatrics highlights the groundbreaking work of Jessica Jack, MD, and Scott Hamilton, DDS and the emerging field of Medical-Dental Integration (MDI).

In a first-of-its-kind study that controlled for individuals’ biological factors, researchers found that people who lived in multi-family housing, or in areas with higher levels of air pollution and access to public transit, were at a higher risk of hospitalization from COVID-19 in the Denver metro area in 2020.

Kaiser Permanente and Denver Health Foundation donors sustain affordable health care access

Denver – Donors throughout the Denver community pitched in to exceed the goal set by Kaiser Permanente’s community health grant and matching challenge, successfully yielding $18.7 million to preserve and enhance affordable health care access and help ease the burden of rising uncompensated care costs at Denver Health which totaled $140 million in 2023.

DENVER — The labor and delivery team at Denver Health welcomed Juan Carlos Felix Nuñez (Carlos) into the world at 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2024, making him the first baby to be born at Denver Health in 2024. Adding to the warm welcome, Carlos’s family took home a special gift of 2,024 diapers thanks to Denver Health Foundation’s Newborns in Need program.

Carlos was born healthy to Juan Carlos Felix and Eileen Nuñez Loya, weighing in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measuring in at 20 inches long at birth.

DENVER The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) has awarded Denver Health nearly $6.6 million in research funding to study how to improve care for children with ear infections. About 85% of ear infections clear up on their own; however, over 95% of children are being prescribed an antibiotic even though they probably don’t need one.

DENVER— The Emergency Department at Denver Health is participating in a national study to evaluate if one of two commonly used sedative medications during intubation improves outcomes for severely ill adult patients.

Intubation is a high-risk medical procedure that is done to put a severely ill patient on a breathing machine. One in four of these patients experience serious problems with blood pressure or oxygen levels during this procedure.
