Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

You will need a referral to schedule an appointment with the Gastroenterology (GI) Lab. After the referral is approved, you will get a call within 10 days to schedule your appointment. If you do not answer our call, we will leave a message to call us at 303-602-1926 to make your appointment. The GI Lab will call many times to schedule your appointment. If you do not schedule an appointment, your referral will be cancelled after 120 days. Procedure and sedation information will be mailed to you and can be found on our Resources and Education page.

One week before your procedure, you will get a phone call or text to confirm the date and time. Preparation can be hard to understand, and if not done right, you will need a second procedure. The best way to get the right information is to speak to a nurse. A nurse will call you approximately 5 days before your procedure to talk about how to get ready. If you are not available when the nurse calls, we will leave a message, and it will be your responsibility to call the GI Lab at 303-602-1926 to get the preparation instructions. If you do not receive instructions before your procedure, it will be cancelled and can be rescheduled for a later date.

How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Once your appointment is scheduled, it is your responsibility to complete your procedure. You must give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment. If you do not come to your scheduled appointment or do not give the GI Lab 24 hours notice, you will have limited times and days to re-schedule the procedure. After two no shows or cancellations, your referral will be cancelled. To schedule or cancel your appointment, give us a call at 303-602-1926.

Can I drive after my colonoscopy or endoscopy?

No, you will not be able to drive yourself home after your appointment. You will receive medicine that makes you sleepy during the procedure. You will need to have a responsible adult with you to take you home after. If you cannot find a ride or an adult to take you home, please notify the scheduling department.

Does my insurance cover my procedure?

Before the procedure, Denver Health will contact your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. They will contact you regarding copays, deductibles or non-covered charges. Please contact us at 303-602-3466 for information regarding your coverage.
