Healthcare Interest Program

Denver Health is helping the next generation to connect with career opportunities in the medical field. The Healthcare Interest Program (HIP) accepts pre-health undergraduates from the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), Metropolitan State University in Denver (MSU Denver) and Regis University in Denver. (If you are a high school student interested in a career in healthcare, learn more about our high school internship program MC2.)

Students can earn one credit hour per semester for participating in the year-long program (through the office of Experiential Learning at CU Denver, the Applied Learning Center at MSU Denver and Regis College Academic Internship Program).

The Healthcare Interest Program (HIP) is a grassroots Denver Health mentorship program that works to increase the success of underprivileged, underrepresented college students who are interested in careers in healthcare. HIP works with the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Regis University of Denver to successfully enroll these students into the training or graduate school of their choice. HIP is privileged to be able to utilize Denver Health providers and resources in providing specialized opportunities for these students.

Understanding that healthcare outcomes are improved when there is cultural, social, ethnic or racial congruency between provider and patient, HIP seeks to address health care inequity and disparity by increasing the number of underrepresented healthcare providers in at Denver Health, in Denver County, and throughout Colorado.
