Denver Health broke ground today on the new 82,500-square-foot Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center, marking a historic investment in health care access for West Denver.
Partially funded through the Denver VIBRANT Bond, a voter-approved initiative to strengthen equitable infrastructure and essential community services, the project represents Denver Health’s ongoing commitment to expanding care for Denver’s diverse and growing communities.
Located at 1100 Federal Blvd., the new facility will increase patient capacity by 30%, serving more than 33,000 patients annually. It will offer expanded and enhanced services, including pediatric and adult primary care, dental care, OB-GYN, physical and occupational therapy and advanced imaging such as CT, X-ray, ultrasound and mammography.
The $100–$115 million project will be constructed on the existing clinic’s parking lot and is expected to open in 2027. The new center will retain the name Sam Sandos, honoring Denver’s first Latino city council member and the clinic’s historic role serving Spanish-speaking communities since 1968.
“For more than five decades, the Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center has stood as a symbol of trust, compassion and community in West Denver,” said Donna Lynne, CEO of Denver Health. “This new facility builds on that proud legacy, ensuring that every family—regardless of income, language or circumstance—has access to the high-quality care they deserve. It’s an investment not just in health care, but in well-being of this community.”
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and other Denver City council leaders joined Denver Health leaders and community members at the groundbreaking ceremony, underscoring the city’s support for equitable health care access and community-driven investment.
