Denver Health has once again earned the Hospital Breastfeeding Excellence Award. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) gave the award to Denver Health at the 2026 Colorado Hospital Lactation Collaborative Annual Workshop on Sept. 16, 2026.
The Colorado Hospital Lactation Collaborative (CHLC), part of CDPHE, created this award to recognize hospitals that go above and beyond to support new families. To win, a hospital must use evidence-based policies and practices that are known to help more parents succeed at breastfeeding and improve health outcomes for both moms and babies.
Hospitals earn the award by putting at least two of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative's Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding into practice. These steps must be written into the hospital's breastfeeding and infant feeding policy, and staff must be routinely trained on them.
This is not the first time Denver Health has received this honor. The hospital has won the award multiple times, reflecting its ongoing commitment to supporting birthing patients and their newborns.
"Thank you for your continued amazing care and support you all provide for our birthing patients and their new babies," CHLC said in a message to Denver Health staff.
The award highlights the work of Denver Health's lactation and maternity teams, who help new parents build healthy feeding habits from day one.
