Denver Health is thrilled and honored to announce the renaming and dedication of its Trauma Center as the Ernest E. Just after turning 17, Jourdan Block was involved in a severe car crash on New Year’s Eve, 2001, when the vehicle she was riding in crashed into a tree in Denver. Block went to school with Dr. Ernest E. “Gene” Moore’s sons, who heard about the crash involving her and other classmates and immediately called their dad to come down from the mountains to treat her. Her injuries included a shattered pelvis and a burst bladder; both were, at the time, considered to be some of the worst injuries of their types in the country.

Fireworks during the 4th of July are part of the American tradition. Unfortunately, thousands of people (mostly children and teens) are injured while using consumer fireworks.
In 2017, Denver Health Paramedics responded to 344 calls on the 4th of July, according to Lt. Julia Arellano. The typical calls are for alcohol intoxication, unconsciousness, falls and traffic accidents, but fireworks injuries are top of mind.
Nationwide, more than 11,000 people are injured by consumer fireworks and 25 percent of those injuries come from sparklers.
