In 2025, Denver Health’s Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety (RMPDS) handled more than 40,000 poison center cases in Colorado and provided critical services to prevent poisonings and 24/7 expert support to families, individuals and medical professionals in the community.  

Storytelling is a powerful tool that influences how we think, learn, and interact with the world, and a new study has found that community co-created text messages and storytelling may help improve influenza vaccination rates for children in underserved communities, including Black and African American children. 

Denver Health is proud to announce Yael Schenker, MD, MAS, as the health system’s new Chief Academic Officer. In this role, Dr. Schenker oversees research and education, working collaboratively to lead and grow well-supported, multidisciplinary academic programs aligned with Denver Health’s mission as a learning health system. 

Denver Health welcomed its first baby of 2026, Oulahni Flores, born at 2 a.m. Jan. 1, weighing 7 pounds, 0.4 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. The baby’s parents, Claudia Flores-Rios and Erik Flores received a thoughtful gift of 2,026 diapers and a “Hello, Little One” welcome bag filled with essential supplies to help support the start of their baby’s life with everything needed.

Denver Health unveiled Colorado’s first Integrated Medical and Psychiatric Care Unit (IMAP), a 12-bed inpatient unit that treats adult patients with active medical and active psychiatric conditions that require hospitalization at the same time.

Denver Health’s reputation as the most trusted hospital for families to deliver their babies was bolstered this week by U.S. News and World Report, which named Denver Health to its 2026 list of Best Hospitals for Maternity. 

Already designated as one of Newsweek’s Best Maternity Care Hospitals, Denver Health delivers half of all babies born in Denver, including more than 4,300 last year.
