Support with Breastfeeding after Delivery (Postpartum Breastfeeding)

While mom and baby are still at Denver Health recovering from the delivery, a lactation support specialist will visit to help mom and baby get a good start to breastfeeding.

We know that breastfeeding can sometimes be challenging and that new moms need support from family and the community. That is why we offer postpartum breastfeeding classes and encourage new mothers, partners and family members to come to learn and practice breastfeeding skills for moms with babies one to four months old.

La Leche League of Denver hosts several breastfeeding support groups throughout Denver and at Denver Health.

Lactation Consultations by Appointment

One of our Denver Health Lactation experts can provide breastfeeding help and support after your baby is born. This free service is for patients of Denver Health (women and infants). Please call 303-602-9290 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

For moms receiving Denver Health WIC and Medicaid, breastfeeding consults are also available for free. Please call Amy Kaplan, RD, IBCLC at (303) 602-6434 to schedule an appointment.

Weekly Lactation Clinic for Pediatric Patients/New Moms

These special clinics hosted by Webb Pediatric Clinic within the Webb Center for Primary Care and Westside Family Health Center Pediatric Clinic are designed to help ensure that our moms and our newborn patients, receive guidance on nursing from a pediatrician and a nurse who specialize in breastfeeding. Your baby will be weighed before and after the feeding, so you can see how much milk your baby is getting during a feed. You will also be able to ask questions and share concerns with other breastfeeding mothers if you are interested.

We will track your baby’s progress to ensure that the baby is gaining weight and growing properly, and will provide a plan that is unique for you and your baby to make breastfeeding easier. The baby needs to be a Denver Health patient. Call Webb clinic at 303-602-8340 and Westside clinic at 303-602-0888 to make an appointment.

Webb: Every Wednesday | 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Westside: Every Tuesday | 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
