As Denver Health's trauma medical director rounded on her pediatric trauma patients on a recent weekday, she noticed a disturbing pattern by the end. Every child admitted for trauma – whose wounds included broken bones piercing through the skin, traumatic brain injuries, blunt abdominal injuries and others that required care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit – was there because of an e-scooter or e-bike crash.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide was responsible for 49,476 deaths in 2022, which is about one death every 11 minutes.
