Denver Health is thrilled to welcome Matthew Holland, M.D. as director of interventional cardiology. Dr. Holland joins Denver Health after serving patients at the Boulder Medical Center and Boulder Community Hospital for 22 years. Dr. Holland is considered an expert in interventional cardiology, utilizing minimally invasive catheter-based techniques to clear out and open up blocked arteries in the heart, legs and other blood vessels.

Dr. Holland received his undergraduate degree in biology from Colorado College. He then spent seven years in Baltimore, Maryland at Johns Hopkins where he completed his medical school, internship, and residency. He completed a four-year general and interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Utah where he received numerous awards including the prestigious American College of Cardiology/Merck and Pfizer postdoctoral fellowships. In 1992, Dr. Holland joined the faculty of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine as an interventional cardiologist and co-director of the Albuquerque VA Medical Center Cardiac Catheterization laboratory. During this time he performed the first coronary stent implantation in the state of New Mexico and had the opportunity to train many physicians throughout the United States in the use of coronary stents.

Dr. Holland is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology. He is both a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Coronary Angiography and Intervention. Dr. Holland has particular interest and expertise in high risk coronary intervention, left main coronary intervention, coronary intervention as an alternative to bypass surgery in high risk patients and in-complex peripheral vascular disease intervention including limb salvage.

Denver Health is also excited by the arrival of Zach Kahn, certified physician assistant, who will also be joining the Denver Health cardiology team as well. Zach has worked solely with Dr. Holland as a physician assistant in Boulder since 2010 and specializes in the long-term management of chronic coronary and peripheral vascular disease, state-of-the-art lipid and risk factor management, and the medical management of congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias.

Zach received his clinical and physician assistant training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine Anschutz campus. Prior to that he earned a Masters of Science in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder where his studies focused primarily on cardiovascular aging.
