About two and a half years ago in a small rural town near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an 18-year-old girl had just started using her first electronic cigarette (e-cigarette). She was not too different than any other teenager in Denver. She attended high school and worked part-time at as a hostess at a local restaurant. She had no idea how her life would soon change and that in a few weeks she would be teetering on the edge of life and death in an intensive care unit while doctors worked frantically to save her life.

Patients at the oldest-standing neighborhood health center in the country have a fresh space to get their care. Renovations were recently completed at Denver Health's Bernard F. Gipson Sr. Eastside Family Health Center.
The $6.2 Million renovation project started in the Fall of 2018. It was the first major overhaul of the facility in the heart of Denver's Five Points neighborhood since it opened in 1966.

Nurse Meghan Malecki had a lifelong dream of becoming a flight nurse. There was just one problem: Her weight.
For safety reasons related to the helicopters' ability to fly and pick up patients, most flight nurse programs place height and weight restrictions on crew members, requiring that flight nurses weigh no more than 250 pounds, including clothing and medical equipment. While not her primary motivation, at 280 pounds, Malecki was not able to take that dream step in her career.
