The Denver Health Doula Program’s mission is to provide devoted, equitable doula support during labor and birth for people and families at Denver Health. Illness from birthing in the U.S.
Our birthing center, located in our Labor and Delivery Unit, features beautiful, large private birthing suites equipped with state-of-the-art birthing beds and private bathrooms with whirlpool tubs. If needed, there is also space in our Labor and Delivery rooms for mom’s spouse/partner to sleep overnight.
For women who plan to breastfeed their newborns, Denver Health has international board-certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors that are committed to helping a mother achieve the best breastfeeding experience for her and her baby.
Part of your prenatal care will include at least one visit with a sonographer for an anatomy scan ultrasound, typically at or near 20 weeks. This visit ensures that your baby’s development is on track. If desired, the sex of the baby usually can be determined at the anatomy scan ultrasound.
Denver Health offers a range of services for genetic screening and testing. The newest of these is the availability of Cell-Free DNA testing to all of our pregnant patients that are at least 10 weeks into their pregnancy. A Cell-Free DNA test uses a blood draw from the mother to look at both the mother’s and baby’s chromosomes to identify genetic disorders that the baby may be at risk for.
After an initial exam, your baby will stay with you during the recovery period and accompany you to the Mom/Baby Unit.
The Denver Health OB screening room is a unique resource for pregnant women and one-of-a-kind service in the Denver area. Expectant moms who are 14 or more weeks pregnant can visit the OB screening room at any time for evaluation and to be monitored.

Community Doula Training is comprehensive and covers education and doula support through pregnancy, childbirth, early postpartum, and breastfeeding. Our birth doula certification course also covers the history of modern doula/birth work, racial inequities and implicit-bias training, and trauma informed care.

The Cancer Screening Mobile Health Center is one of Denver Health’s federally qualified community health centers, providing patient 2D and 3D mammogram imaging for breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screenings and patient education on both.

Once you learn you are pregnant, you may have many questions about what's next and how you can have a healthy pregnancy. What should you eat? What kinds of tests will you and your baby need? What happens if problems come up?
Having a baby is a very personal moment. The nurses, physicians and nurse midwives at Denver Health work with mothers to give them the experience they desire during this very special time. Mothers are encouraged to talk to their providers during prenatal care and on the day of delivery about the birth experience they expect.
When it is time for you to go home, our providers will give any special instructions for you and your baby, as well as prescriptions for any necessary medications.
