Maxillofacial trauma patients with gunshot/shotgun wounds to face, have many special needs in regards to their reconstruction. Not only must the lost soft tissue be replaced, but oftentimes patients can have a loss of the underlying bone from the injury.
After massive weight loss, one can experience issues with excess skin and tissue throughout the body. Often, patients have skin problems (rashes, infections and boils) with these areas of their body. One can also experience physical limitations from the redundant skin and tissues that impact their lifestyle.
Pressure sores develop when one has prolonged immobility which can be due to injury or chronic illness. Once the pressure sore has started to involve the muscle and underlying bone, then it requires surgical intervention. Surgical intervention often involves not only the removal of the affected tissue and bone, but also covering the defect left with healthy tissue.
