Every year Denver Health recommends that our patients get a vaccine to protect against the flu (influenza) during the fall and winter seasons. But this year, it is especially important because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicts that both the influenza virus and COVID-19 will be spreading at the same time, creating the potential for extra strain of healthcare resources that may already be stretched thin.
This week, Denver Health joined 38 health systems across the country in declaring racism as a public health crisis. The move, led by the Healthcare Anchor Network comes after several months of social unrest, amidst a global pandemic where we are seeing communities of color experience disproportionate impacts of violence and mortality because of COVID-19.
With the convergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the seasonal flu, Denver Health strongly recommends that everyone over the age of six months get a flu shot. Starting this week, volunteers with the Denver Elections Division will be at Denver Health to remind our patients and staff to register to vote. For the next five weeks, up until election day, they are hosting mobile registration events outside of six Denver Health locations.
