Program Assistance Available

If you do not have insurance, community health care advisors and enrollment specialists are available at all SBHC sites to assist your student and family in determining insurance eligibility and completing the application process for one of the following programs: Health First Colorado (Medicaid), CHP+, Connect for Health Colorado and Discount Programs (DFAP &CICP).

To speak to a medical provider or for general questions, please call 303-602-8958 or send an email to SBHC@DHHA.org and include your name, contact information and the location you are inquiring about if applicable. For referring a patient or student to School-based Health Centers, please send an email to SBHC@DHHA.org and include your name and contact information as well as the subject of the referral.

History

Registration

Parents or guardians must sign consent forms before a student may use most of our services. Once this is complete, students may use the health center at any time during the school year. Consents are good for one school year.

Students in grades six to 12 are able to go to the clinic alone. However, children in preschool through fifth grade can be seen alone, if consented and at the request of a school staff member as long as parents are aware and participating in visit, otherwise a parent must be present.

Supporting family communication is a core value of our school-based health centers. SBHC staff encourage students to discuss their health with their parents / guardians. However, parents are not routinely notified when a student uses the health center, except by student request or when the staff becomes aware of serious health concerns.

In accordance with Colorado State Law, Denver Health School-Based Health Centers will allow students (if requested) to consent themselves into certain confidential services beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.  Confidential services include both behavioral health and reproductive/sexual health services. Parental or guardian consent will still be required for the use of all other services for students under the age of 18.  Additional background information can be found here.
