Birth Control and Family Planning

Birth Control and Family Planning Services for Men

Men attending the Family Planning Clinic at Denver Public Health Institute are provided family planning counseling with emphasis on the role, responsibility, and importance of effective communication with their partners surrounding the contraceptive decision-making process. If a couple is trying to conceive, we also offer information on how to have a healthy pregnancy.

Family planning services for men include:

  • Involve men in pregnancy planning and prevention
  • Provide accurate information on available methods, benefits of spacing children and pregnancy/delivery
  • Preconception counseling
  • Contraception: offer condoms; female-directed methods discussed
  • Emergency contraception
  • Referrals for vasectomies
Denver Public Health Institute also provides free emergency contraception (or EC). EC may be used to help prevent pregnancy after having sex without using birth control. EC must be taken within five days after unprotected intercourse. EC is most effective when taken as soon as possible after having sex.
